COMPOSING AND RECORDING STUDIO BUILDING
2021
Los Angeles, California
Renowned composer and arranger William Ross earlier had commissioned nonzero\architecture to design his commercial studio facility, Momentum RLP in Santa Monica. Completed in early 2013, the facility was closed after several successful years in operation, in favor of a new studio closer to home.
The new ground-up building takes up half of a former tennis court and houses two writing and production studios as well as the main recording, mix and presentation studio with its own recording booth. An additional production room and a generous central equipment room round out the studio facilities.
The new 2,400 sf single-story building complements an existing smaller home studio and is geared towards providing a comfortable working environment as well as accommodations for the high-profile clientele. A light-filled lounge with a kitchen and additional sitting areas serves as the heart of the building.
The clean-lined but deliberately detailed volume of the new building is situated in a drought-tolerant landscape and the remaining half of the tennis court has been repurposed for parking, still to be covered with a PV solar canopy.
Steps away from the main residence, the studio offers complete privacy, acoustic and technical excellence, all in a comfortable modern environment.
