Chicago Scoring Stage – Third Coast Music

Chicago, Illinois

The design was developed as part of an effort to bring a world-class film music scoring facility to the City of Chicago. The non-profit organization Third Coast Music has been working tirelessly to bring together Chicago’s acclaimed musical communities and is dedicated to resurrecting Chicago as a recording hub for the music industry. Recognizing that there is no large scoring facility that can accommodate Chicago’s growing postproduction needs, Third Coast is planning to build a new state-of-the-art scoring stage to attract the growing film and TV industry in the area and worldwide. The conceptual design consists of a scoring stage for at least one hundred musicians, complemented by choral and observation balconies and five different isolation booths. Control and mix rooms will also be built, along with the necessary infrastructure to run and service a major facility of this scale, such as edit bays, mastering rooms and production offices.

In addition to providing community outreach, educational programs and workshops, the creation of a scoring stage and postproduction facility is a main element of the group’s strategy to enhance the local music scene. The addition of the facility will broaden the scope of available opportunities for the large, diverse and talented pool of musicians and film makers in the city, while providing educational programs for youths and the general public.
